Do any /nen/frends here like the MGS series, like really really like it and grew up with it?
https://my.mixtape.moe/xnszcm.mp3
nen, I am in a lot of pain. It's the phantom pain… it's really real and it's hurting me a lot, you don't understand. You don't understand! /nen/ I thought I would be okay, but it’s my spirit… so many months have gone by, and still that beautiful game… still holding me very tightly. I want to overcome it, this feeling. It’s not just about playing the game again, I need a frend that can help me move on, this summer. Will someone be my frend?

The emotions are real. Why did Kojima do this to us? The whole experience… I almost want to cry. What am I to do

 No.12215

I did, the first three still has the biggest impression on me, there were so many iconic moments. The first MGS was so exceptional for its time, it was unlike anything up until then. Completely, blew my mind as a kid.

I thought V wrapped up the series very well though. Not many series were fortunate enough to get such a nice farewell.

On an unrelated note, I'm currently struggling to get over Nier;Automata having completed it only a few days ago.

They're nice and relaxing. Probably like real golf would be, without having to have a course near by, having to pay a fee to get in, buying/renting clubs, months or years of practice to get good, holding up other players and embarrassing yourself because you're bad…

I've never played real golf though. Just putt golf and frisbee/disk golf.

Thanks for responding, I've never played real golf either. Relaxing games are the best, maybe I should try one out and see if it appeals.

Yes! MGS really shaped me too and how I appreciate a lot of things. Everything about it is so cool! I can't get over it. I really tried to! I ignored everything thinking I need to move on, but it turns out my heart won't let go. I was spending all day listening to music that reminded me of everything, like the last part of your song fills me up with so much emotions… so many memories and things to talk about, the lore! Waiting for V was the most fun experience ever with a fanbase. I miss it so much, so many people miles more passionate than me, it was so exciting to be around. I feel so lonely now that it's all distant and everyone has moved on. Really lonely… I don't know what to do.
https://my.mixtape.moe/ybjxua.mp3
But that's exactly how Snake always feels right? These heavy emotions we have to bear with on the battlefield.
Shenmue2 came out that same time MGS2 released too, and I think everyone knows how we didn't get a nice farewell for that (but soon!). I have a Dreamcast still and was thinking about playing that too, it's really nice and I have fond memories of it. Does anyone here play Shenmue?
I want to play NierA too, but one day when I have the money. Does that one hurt?

It takes itself a lot less seriously than DoD1 and the tone is more light-hearted but the plot itself is your usual Taro wackiness and it gets very dark and emotional sometimes, particularly towards the end. I liked most of the characters, especially the intoners but most of their characterization comes from the overpriced but neat DLCs and novellas/manga (if you like the game make sure you check these out after you finish the game since half of the story is side stuff material).

As far as the gameplay goes it's kind of the same as 1 but better (e.g. you don't have to stand in a room for an hour to get a weapon) with the exception of the aerial missions which are a lot more railroaded, kinda like a Panzer Dragoon. I prefer 1's aerial missions.

If you liked DoD1 you'll probably enjoy this one too if you can stomach the dragon piss jokes in the first level. Oh and the OST is really great too.

I got back into Elite Dangerous some time ago. Just recently I unlocked the Federal Assault Ship. It's a medium-sized, heavily armoured ship with big mass. Ramming pirates is a fun and surprisingly effective tactic with it. I've rammed a full shielded Anaconda with it, punched straight through its shields and shaved off 10% hull integrity off him, while my shields survived the ram (I had 4 pips to systems though). I hope the Federal Gunship is just as fun when I unlock it. 7 hardpoints for weapons and the ability to install a fighter hangar has lots of potential for shenanigans.

The anticipation building up to V was certainly exciting, with all the suspense Kojima built around it. I think the way Kojima wraps the series up without leaving too many glaring loopholes makes it easier to get around in time. When did you last play the game? Speaking to you about it like this and listening to music from the game floods me with memories.

Unfortunately I didn't have a Dreamcast and never had the chance to play Shenmue just yet. I've always heard about how great it was for its time and had wanted to play it. I think I might emulate it one of these days. With regards to NierA, it was a typical Yoko Taro game. It felt a little different for me though, I don't know how to explain it. Perhaps I feel a little more unsatisfied at the end.

I haven't played 5, but unless you're trying to minmax you can't go too wrong with any recruiting decisions because the main stories in Disgaea games are pretty easy and grinding will get pretty much any party through the more difficult post-game stuff anyway.

They've been saying it like that since the first game, so maybe they just thought it would be weird to change it now.

Speaking of which, I finally finished the main route in Persona 1. Overall, I really liked the story, and it was fun to see some of the Persona 2 characters as high school students. I had to redo half of the game just to get the good ending, but the unexpectedly tough final boss and seeing everyone happy at the end made it all worth it.

I will probably get back to it and do the Snow Queen route once I finish Persona 5.

Sorry it's been a while! It's summer NOW and I will finally start playing!! Am thinking about trying to relive the hype and start with GZ, and then go over anything I miss in the lore with videos and such. I haven't even started… but there are things in the game that are really relevant to things happening in my life right NOW and that is maybe why I have this calling? Last time I played the game… was around November of 2015ish. I remember not even trying the online multiplayer year after because I was not interested and was too emotionally involved and quit COMPLETELY! KOJIMA HURT ME!!!!!
Also! I am going to purchase NierA really soon from the sale!
I mentioned Shenmue, because I wanted to practice my Japanese comprehension, and I think it's a very nice game that has lots realistic interractions. Hehe, maybe nobody here was into it like I was.

That's nice, I look forward to discussing NierA with you in the future. I was very intrigued by Shenmue and I still regretted not being able to play it when it came out. I think the game that was closest to it that I've played would probably be the Yakuza series.

Technically, the legitimate successor would be Marvelous' Story of Seasons since they have always been the developer whereas Natsume only owns the name. The latest entry you spoke of was developed by a western studio if I remember correctly. Still, the whole series have been going through the handheld route for a while now. The gameplay as I recall was also becoming a lot more objective based. I quite miss the older console entries where it was more open and "vast".

It sort of is. I think it's a twist of the Zettai Zetsumei Toshi series which is a survival game that puts you as a survivor of a major (natural) disaster. I think the concept for this is quite interesting since it puts you in the same situation but as a survivor of a sci-fi disaster. Although I've read that it's not meant to be related to the series though supposedly since a new installment is supposedly in the works.

The developer, Granzella, is made up of the former staff of Irem and technically their spiritual successor. They are also the ones who made and maintained Playstation Home.

Was reading about Sega consoles last night, its actually appalling how they built so much momentum with the Genesis and then completely squandered it pumping out garbage, the story of the Sega Saturn is also tragic but seems overshadowed by the Dreamcast.

 No.14669

>>14668
Can you summarize the exciting parts, I'll read it all.

 No.14674

>>14669
Sega Master System came out during the NES age but struggled because Nintendo ran extremely draconian licensing practices; if you developed games for NES you were not allowed to make games for other systems, or you lost your licensing privileges. SEGA in turn developed the Mega Drive or Genesis and ran an extremely aggressive marketing campaign against Nintendo, attracting their own developers in the process. SEGA was ultimately successful, beating the SNES in marketshare and reducing Nintendo to lying about their sales numbers.

As the next console generation started to roll around, 32 bit was all the rage, and SEGA wanted a piece of the pie early while they were still developing the Saturn. So they made the 32X, an addon to the Genesis, which was 32bit, but was crap. Then they made the Sega CD, which unlike the 32X was redeemable. Sonic CD is considered the best Sonic game ever made, but that is pretty much the only good game for it, still better than the 32X which had nothing good.

SEGA developed the Saturn shortly afterward. Saturn was an interesting console with very complex hardware as well as being EXPENSIVE. An interesting tidbit is that it used quads instead of triangles for its 3D. It has been said that if the Saturn had been successful, quads would be the standard instead of triangles. Saturn had almsot no 3rd party support because of the 32X and the CD's failure. Its life was cut short 4 years after launch. Many people cite the lack of a sonic game as the reason for its failure, though Sega had one in development that never got around to being published.

Sega's last ditch attempt was the Dreamcast, released in 1999. Unlike the Saturn, the Dreamcast was made to be CHEAP. A former executive said that the Dreamcast was built like a typical PC instead of a gaming console, and Microsoft even released a version of Windows CE for it. Dreamcast was made to be so cheap in fact, that there was squabbling in Sega's board of directors about adding the built in modem, which would add $15 to the retail price. Another interesting tidbit is the fact that by 1999, SEGA's brand had been so tarnished (Genesis had only launched 10 years earlier) that SEGA was considering not even putting their logo on the console. To quote Wikipedia: "Dan Whitehead of Eurogamer, discussing the Dreamcast's portrayal 'as a small, square, white plastic JFK', commented that the system's short lifespan 'may have sealed its reputation as one of the greatest consoles ever': 'Nothing builds a cult like a tragic demise'. According to IGN's Travis Fahs, 'Many hardware manufacturers have come and gone, but it's unlikely any will go out with half as much class as Sega.'

 No.14675

>>14669
Not him but as far as I know they bought into their own hype about 16bits and made the 32x which was supposed to have double the power, then got into the CD fad too early with the sega CD, wasting a ton of money on products that were way too expensive for the general public meaning they never got proper returns. Then when they made the saturn they had the american and the japanese branches competing with each other to come up with the console instead of working together and the american team won with an atrocious design that, while powerful, was never used to its full extent and was so complicated it was hard to make games for much less port them, condemning the saturn to depending mostly on exclusives, to the point it's still a pain to emulate today. Also losing the source code to panzer dragoon saga.

This video shows very well what people who made games for the saturn had to deal with. It also shows all the crap about 60fps is meaningless (starting at around 3 minutes).

Personally I had a lot of fun with Kolibri, Tempo, and a few other 32X games. The add-on itself was still a huge mistake though, and it makes me wonder why some developers even bothered making games for it instead of the Saturn.

I've been replaying the PC port of Mighty Switch Force today and have been having a blast. The switch mechanic livens up the platforming, so it's not just about timing your jump to get maximum distance but also timing the switch to enable certain blocks to appear; it's a special kind of suffering knowing you were solely responsible for spawning the block which killed you. I'm also a huge fan of the music throughout the game; the tempo sets a good pace for the game play, while the songs themselves are light and uplifting, lending to the games pleasant atmosphere.

Decided to playthrough Gothic 2. Doesn't really seem like much of an improvement over the first game. The beginning is even more tedious with the combat changes too.

Also don't know why everyone says to skip the first game and jump into the second. You play as the same person in both games, they take place 2 weeks apart, and many characters from the first show up in 2. Feels like you'd be missing a lot if you just skipped it.

So far after a few hours of playing I can say the game is VERY generous and hands out leaf tickets like candy. If you link a Nintendo account I think you can also spend your platinum points for even more ingame rewards including the tickets. Also funnily enough stuff regenerates even faster then they do in the main games like fruit regens after 3 hours compared to the 3 days it takes to regenerate in ACNL. I can't see Nintendo making lots of money on this game at all.

I finished RUINER recently and it was really fun!
The soundtrack was very good, I was surprised when I noticed a Hirasawa song playing in the background! I think the game does a good job with the atmosphere for the cyberpunk setting!
The story was so-so but it still had me invested until the end, even though it wasn't really the main point of the game in my opinion.
Gameplay wise it's pretty similar to Hotine Miami although you have an actual life bar and you also have a variety of skills and abilities that you can level up through the course of the game. There's also stuff like side quests and hidden items although I didn't pay too much attention to those, maybe something I'll look into on my second playthrough!
I'd definitely recommend the game to fans of fast action games!

 No.19343

I'm kind of worried about what they're going to do with the scaling difficulty in World. They have said that difficulty scales to the amount of players, which I guess might be a good thing for the average player, but I and many others enjoy playing the game solo rather than multiplayer and we enjoy that level of challenge. In fact I really didn't like 4U's village quests because of how easy they were. So if they've suddenly made it impossible to have that challenge it might just ruin the entire game for me. Hopefully it's just scaling HP and not damage, because that I can probably live with, but as far as I know they haven't really specified how it works.

Other than that though, World looks fun. I mean there are other things I don't like, like the new skill system which seems to take all the fun out of mixed sets, but I can understand why they want to simplify it for new players and it doesn't affect the core gameplay too much. The new monsters do look really cool and fun to fight and the changes to the weapons seem fine for the most part, and at the end of the day I guess that's what matters. I guess things like no loading screens between zones will be an interesting change too, although I'm not convinced that it's going to make as big a difference as everyone seems to think it makes. Same with monsters attacking each other, people make it sound like this has been some massive flaw in all the games that has been long overdue to be fixed, but I don't see how this even makes that much of a difference other than making you not have to dungbomb when a monster enters the area. And all the environmental stuff, sure it might be a fun gimmick to stun a monster using some environmental thing or whatever, but I don't think it's going to be as big of a deal as people act like it will be. Not to mention healing, which seems like the kind of thing where if you asked a lot of these people before World was announced what they think of flexing I'm sure they would have said it was a good thing and synergised well with the style of gameplay MH has, but now they are all acting like flexing was this horrible mechanic that should have been taken out ages ago and that World is going to be amazing now that it's gone.

Sorry this post ended up being so long, but I've had quite a few thoughts about this game and about what others are saying about it for a while. I know I sound pretty negative but I do think the game will probably be fun, I just have some worries and I feel like the game is getting a lot of undeserved praise, and I feel like so many people are just ignoring a lot of potential flaws and instead just saying how it's going to be the best MH game ever because it's on better hardware now.

 No.19365

>>19362
What are your preference and what are you looking for? If you're not put off by older graphics then Persona 2 would be a good place to start, or you could play either series chronologically. Otherwise the easiest entry point would be SMTIII:Nocturne for the SMT series or any of the Persona series from 3 onwards. The Devil Summoner series is good too, it's often overlooked.

Personally Nocturne is my favourite and if you want something with deeper plot then I would suggest playing it, the Persona series is more easygoing and there are a lot of social aspect to it.

This is fantastic advice as long as you're not the type of person that burns out or gives up easily, and as was already said, you don't mind old graphics. I'd actually expand on the old graphics to include heavily dated ui and gameplay too. I mean this too, follow this advice if you're willing to keep going with the series and don't mind how dated the games are.

Otherwise, just play Persona 4 Golden or SMTIV first, then move to Persona 5. I'm skipping even Persona 3 here cause a lot of people aren't used to gameplay like working your way through Tartarus anymore. This is what I would recommend to someone that wants to check the series out but clearly won't play through any of the older titles.

Deep Strange Journey is out in Japan and we should be getting a NA release soon as well.

The SMT and Persona series are independent plot-wise in each entries but there are direct connections between the SMT series and especially Persona 1&2(takes place in the same world and shares characters). I'd recommend starting with the later Persona games since those are a bit more beginner friendly, 3 and 4 are usually recommended to beginners, haven't played 5 yet. Digital Devil Saga is pretty beginner friendly too but not nearly as popular as the Persona games although it's a good alternative if you're looking for a different setting.
If the social stuff and modern setting isn't your thing and you're more interested in the gameplay aspect then Nocturne is probably a good starting point but keep in mind that it's one of the more difficult games in the series.
There's no real reason to play the games in order since they are only loosely connected, at best, story wise and the only localized versions of the first SMT games are for the iOS as far as I know. If you want to play the older games in the series then Persona and Persona 2 for the PSP are probably your best bet.
