I'm trying out Tactics Ogre again. I played the PS1 version long ago but dropped it because it just felt like a less polished version of FFT. Of course that makes sense since it was made by the same dev team…

The PSP changes seem interesting so far. At least it cuts down on the grinding anyway.

 No.19397

>>19395
What changes are there for the psp version?

 No.19399

>>19397
A major change is that there aren't any individual character levels. Instead your party shares the same class levels across all members. For example, if you have a level 5 warrior, and class change your cleric to a warrior, he will become a level 5 warrior too.

Characters still have individuality in the skills that you unlock for them. Characters keep these on class changes, although they might not be able to use them depending on class. In the above example, your cleric wouldn't be able to use his divine magic skill since warriors can't equip it.

I never got past the first chapter in the PS1 version, so I don't if there are any story changes or anything. Everything seems similar so far.

Wait, I don't really get it, so if one warrior levels up, every other warriors in the party levels up as well? Sorry, I'm not very smart. I've played the PS1 version until chapter 3 but quit because I missed out recruiting a character and overwrote the save. If I'm not mistaken there are new additional characters in the PSP version.

Tactics Ogre feels less polished because the PS1 version is basically a port of the SNES version compared to FFT which was specifically developed for the PS1. Speaking of FFT, did you play the PSP version as well? If so, what are the differences with the PS1 version? Did you play Ogre Battle? It's the prequel and features Canopus, Lans, Warren, etc. There is also a Tactics Ogre game for the Game Boy featuring the other Lans, if I recall correctly.

Which path are you playing now btw?

>Wait, I don't really get it, so if one warrior levels up, every other warriors in the party levels up as well?
Not quite. Basically, individual characters don't gain exp. Instead, the class does, which is shared by the entire party.

>Speaking of FFT, did you play the PSP version as well? If so, what are the differences with the PS1 version?

Never played it, so I don't know for sure. I hear the translation was cleaned up a bit. They also added a way to become the death knight class that was usually NPC only.

>Did you play Ogre Battle?

I played the SNES one. Didn't get too far in to it either. Part because I was getting bored. Part because I learned that unless you're using a guide, you're most likely going to get a bad ending.

>Which path are you playing now btw?

Not sure. All I know there's 3 alignment paths that you can possibly jump between depending on your choices.

The more trailers of this I see, the less I understand what the heck it's supposed to be about.

The theories are out of control.

Like how the babies activate the little scanner things because they're the closest thing between life and death but they're also clones that you implant your memories into because the baby in the main character did a thumbs up similar to leader man earlier and after you transplant your memories you use something to accelerate your aging because if you look at the guy trapped under the thing he is aging rapidly and didn't get a chance to transfer his memories that is why leader man said he was sorry when he killed him but the main character didn't flinch when leader man was being dragged away because he had his fetus clone so it was no problem.

Some people are complaining nothing was revealed about the gameplay, but the point of a trailer is to get attention. Everyone is talking about it, so it was successful. Kojima knows his marketing.

I was glad to realize I'm so out of the loop with these things that the only way I knew there was a game awards show was because it was trending worldwide on twitter while I was searching for certain images.

>Some people are complaining nothing was revealed about the gameplay, but the point of a trailer is to get attention. Everyone is talking about it, so it was successful. Kojima knows his marketing.

Some people. That's the thing. The others are just fanboys who will buy the game regardless. What should worry you is that we've reached the point where this is acceptable. There was so much talk, hype and speculation about phantom pain and it all died the moment the game came out and it was nowhere near as clever a story as those fanboys made it out to be. I didn't read your whole post before watching the trailer and now I've wasted 8 minutes of my life watching more trite from a hack who if he ever knew what a videogame is he has clearly forgotten about it.

At least the FF13 people had enough a sense of shame to try to pass part of the cutscenes in the FF13 reveal trailer as actual gameplay. This trailer was 8 minutes and it wasn't all just one cutscene. There were multiple cuts where the gameplay could have started, but didn't. I don't like the road konami is taking but I hope they are eventually cut some slack in their firing of Kojima.

We'll see what happens. It's easy for people to back the poor mistreated game developer over the souless corporate machine. Though after a few crowdfunded products completely mishandled their budgets and released subpar games, people are starting to catch on that big games are a team effort. At least this time it's Sony footing the bill.

>>19437
I understand how they feel. With huge budgets and development costs, you have to try and appeal to the biggest groups possible. The best way to sell is flashy graphics and epic cutscenes, since that's easy to show off. Showing off complex game mechanics isn't nearly as simple.

Not much you can do about it at this point. Just find stuff you like and just ignore the mainstream.

 No.19440

The thing about Kojima is his production techniques is heavily based on the Hollywood film industry, he has many times reaffirmed that he originally aspires to be a filmmaker. I've watched a documentary about video game music that briefly touched on him and Konami and even in sound production he takes a lot from Hollywood. The way he releases his trailers are in a similar vein - showcasing visuals, vague and carefully calculated to arouse intrigue and generate hype in the audience without revealing much. It was the same with MGSV.

Gachapon are the little capsule machines you see all over Japan.

Gacha games are what happen when mobile game developers pick up that idea and put cute limited-time girls and boys in digital capsule machines to drain wallets. Occasionally they also have a decent, if shallow, "real" game experience built on top of them.

I have not been following KF at all because I also abstain from mobage and maybe it's different, but you should probably not expect a proper RPG experience.

They usually have some sort of gameplay to them. It's just generally pretty light. Gacha isn't really a genre. It's just a way to categorize a very common monetization scheme.

If you mean KiraFan specifically it seems to be the VN segments interspersed with short bits of a simple RPG-style battle system type.

I didn't mean to give off that bad of an impression of them. For the most part they are still games rather than solely gambling simulators.

I killed the main objective monsters (Great Jagras, Barroth and Anjanath) with Charge Blade, Bow and Heavy Bowgun. I also killed the easier ones with Lance and Light Bowgun. Didn't really try the harder optional ones yet but I heard they'e challenging even for more experienced players…

Why do modern games always call demos betas now anyway? And I wish it was coming out on PC alongside the consoles, but at the same time I don't want a rushed port. Also how's the general game feel? Is it satisfying to hit monsters? Can you tell the difference between hitting a weakspot and hitting a regular spot without damage numbers enabled? The animations seem great from what I've seen so I'm not worried about that.

 No.19539

>>19538
>Why do modern games always call demos betas now anyway?
I guess it's about marketing or something to drive up the interest. Anyone with some sense can see that it's way too late for a real beta now.

I couldn't really tell about hitting weak spots because I mostly just looked at the damage numbers. I didn't play that much with melee weapons but Lance felt really satisfying to use. The ranger weapons all felt great to me.

 No.19540

>>19539
In all the other games you didn't have damage numbers, but you could easily feel how much damage you were doing through things like hitstop, the sound effects and the size of the blood splatter, but since they've changed a bunch of that stuff I was just wondering if it was still as good as before since it makes it really satisfying to hit weak spots or to do big charge attacks with weapons like the greatsword. I guess it might be hard to notice for a new player who's not really looking out for it.
